Don’t get caught up eating high fat snacks and foods while eating your raw food program during this month. It is so easy.  Reason being is because folks get hungry.  And sometimes salads and fruits just don’t cut it. So what is the normal reaction…nuts.  Nuts are very fatty and seem to give you that comfort feeling that we are very familiar with.  Not to mention, when you add a dash of olive oil or coconut oil to your salads you are basically pouring your fat right on…and that actually can be devastating. You do want to use some fats but you want to keep your fat consumption as low as possible.

Frederic Patenaude talks about why eating too much fat affects the healing process of Candida… and this actually applies to most health challenges, especially diabetes:

When we eat too much fat, that excess fat in the bloodstream diminishes insulin sensitivity, so sugar isn’t carried out as fast as it should to the cells. It accumulates in the bloodstream, feeding the candida yeast that is naturally present there. The candida then proliferates to “eat up” the excess sugar. The answer isn’t to consume less sugar, or to try to kill the candida — but to go at the root of the problem, that is, to consume less fat.

Also, Dr Douglas Graham author of the book 80/10/10 says that consuming as many nuts and other fatty vegan foods has detrimental effects to your goals. When it comes to fat, it doesn’t matter so much its origin; fat is fat. Fat goes from the lymph system directly into the blood. Too much fat will thicken the blood, causing the red blood cells to clump together so they cannot deliver oxygen to the cells. Excess fat also blocks the action of insulin in bringing sugars to the cells, which leads to diabetes. It is better to eat small amounts of avocados, nuts and seeds, and not to eat them daily. There is more than adequate fat for the body from fruits, vegetables and leafy greens.

The basis of this program is to consume as much green leafy veggies and you can…with fruits…either blended or in salads.  You can consume a small amount of nuts and avocados…but I would recommend you eliminate the oils.  You will receive the maximum benefits in this way.  If you have any questions or concerns, let me know.  I can follow up with you if you have a specific concern.

Guess what? Im SO Excited!!

How ya doing?  I am feeling so HIGH right now!  And when I say that I mean…a super Positive HIGH!  It seems like when you say that nowadays folks just get the idea that we are smoking something!  Nope.  Just feeling very positive, very hopeful, very excited and all is GOOD!

Another thing Im excited about is that I have been working on this project for years and it looks like it is finally coming to fruition.  It’s a FARM!  Yep, don’t even ask me how this is going to work, but I just feel like it is really time to gets to growing some food.  So I created a non-profit organization and applied for some government farm land in Puerto Rico. And we were approved!  YAHOO!  For 80 acres!  Yep, so starting this fall, I will be working on organizing The Luquillo Farm Sanctuary, where we will not only be growing food, but creating awesome programs for children to teach them about the land.  Check out our new blog about the farm and subscribe!

Any who, I could go on as to why Im so excited about more stuff…but I don’t want to wear you out, so Ill stop here….for now. =)  I wanted to let you read this awesome testimony I got from one of the participants of the Release the Grease: Juice and Smoothie Cleanse.  Makes me feel good to hear from folks out there in cyber world, especially when I have made an impact…(yet another thing I am excited about!)  =)


Good morning Skai,

I would like to say thank you so much!  I took your juicing challenge and I lost 10 pounds in seven days and I am so excited! I actually plan to continue it until September 5 to see how much weight I can lose.  I decided to take the challenge because I never had the chance to lose the baby weight.  I have three kids and after my first child I didn’t gain any weight, I returned to normal in a flash.  Now during my second pregnancy, I gained 50 extra pounds.  As I started losing the weight, I became pregnant with my third child and gained an additional 30 pounds.   I went from weighting 115lbs to 190lbs in the blink of an eye.  I have not been paying attention to my weight until recently when I was relocating and came across some old photos of myself.  My kids were amazed and said ‘mommy, what happened?”  My response was all three of you.  Well I decided that I will get up and do something about it!  I must say that I’m really glad that I did.  I will continue to incorporate juicing into my daily life by using it to replace two meals a day until I accomplish my goal.  Thank you for your motivating emails, words of encouragement, luv and support!  I really do appreciate it! I will keep you updated on my progress.

Release the Grease AGAIN!

Hey There!  We are about to do another Juice Cleanse.  We are gonna start on Aug 20 and go for just one week this time.  Also, this time we are going to included not only pure juicing but pure blending too, because last time we did it…some folks couldn’t participate because they didn’t have a juicer but they did have a blender.  Frankly, there is very little difference between the two.  First of all, you are eating (drinking) the same thing…the only big difference is that with juicing you are removing the pulp out..and with blending you still have the fiber within which is pulverized to smithereens which is what we call  with pre-digested.

Pre-digested?  Basically that means that the blender did the chewing for you.  As you know, digestion starts in the mouth.  And we are supposed to chew our food till it’s like puree (or a smoothie) but who really does that.  I for sure don’t.  Now this is not to say that we should just be consuming only blended foods…we have teeth for a reason…but for the sake of our one week cleanse.  We can let our teeth so what they like to do…SHINE!

What are your GOALS?


Happy Monday!

I just made the bomb green smoothie this morning. It had kale, bananas, blueberries, ginger, coconut water and mango juice in it. Ashe! I remember when breakfast was a big production…a big unhealthy production. I cant do it anymore. Pancakes, potatoes…and for those that eat it…eggs, bacon…etc. Not part of my reality anymore. I look at that type of meal and a super acidic cocktail. If I were to make a big breakfast, I would make a huge fruit salad, oatmeal, smoothies, granola. That type of thing is such a higher vibration…but you know it takes a while to get to that. I think once you start to understand the whole acid alkaline connection you start looking at food and eating differently. I will help with that.

So as I consider guiding folks in my new Wellness Revolutionaries support network, I have come to the realization that folks have different things that they want to do with their health. And it depends on what your goal is as to what direction you are going to go in the Revolution. I have created this chart to help you know what to eat according to where you are in the “Movement”. I always recommend folks to start with a Detox. It is just so important to get the Yuck out of your system when you are transitioning from the Standard American Diet to a true healthy regimen. Now depending on how hard core you want to go you can do either a Juice Cleanse, a Coconut Water Feast, or a Water Fast. They are all beneficial. And naturally the Juice Cleanse is going to be less invasive while the Water Fast will be a lot more in depth. But it must be something you can commit to for a period of time without jumping off. Usually when you start to eat something you have ended the progress and you would normally have to start over. We will get into this more later.

Also, a Detox is not something you want to do long term, especially unsupervised. Many people have done 60 – 90 day Juice Cleanses, but I don’t think it is absolutely necessary not to mention that it is extremely difficult and very expensive too. Many people feel like they can lose weight on a Detox and they can. However I don’t believe that it is advisable to use a Detox for weight loss. Its actually kinda of stressful. You go in it for the wrong reasons. Detox should be something that you want to do to heal your body of slug, yuck, addictions, poor eating and the like. I consider a Detox an oil change. You should do it a few times a year.

If you are interested in losing weight I suggest that you follow a raw diet which will also include juicing, smoothies, and lots and lots of salads. You need to love salads here. This is the turkey on the table. The main event! And of course with your raw food eating…you need to work out more. You have got to find something you like in regards to moving your body and make a commitment in incorporating it into your lifestyle.

Once you get to where you want to be. You can start introducing some cooked foods into your life while maintaining a high raw approach. You would still be consuming your juices and smoothies for breakfast, salads for lunch, and then for dinner a whole food meal, which can be something like stir fry veggies, with beans and quinoa. And that is just an example. You can actually make so many different dishes which we plan to explore as well.

So, now get ready to make some changes. Study the chart and figure out where you are. Are you ready to Detox? Have you done so already and need to just lose weight? Or are you pretty much there and you just want to maintain your already healthy lifestyle? Let me know. I would love to hear where you are and what your goals are.
